Aluminum foil and paper are laminated to form aluminum foil composite paper, or aluminum foil and paper are laminated together with thermoplastic film as adhesive to form multi-layer composite paper.

Composite laminating paper combines the high barrier properties of aluminum foil with the folding resistance and impact resistance of paper, becoming a high-performance packaging material. The composite components in the material are mostly non-toxic and odorless materials, which will not cause pollution and are easy to meet the hygienic and safety standards of packaging; at the same time, because the resin in it can be decomposed when heated to a high temperature, the paper and aluminum foil are separated, thereby improving the recycling and regeneration of the material.

At present, there are many aluminum foil composite papers, and different papers can be used according to different needs. Due to the high barrier properties and multiple packaging adaptability of aluminum-plastic composite paper, it is now widely used in both industrial product packaging and food packaging. In particular, aluminum foil and paper composite are used for cigarette packaging.

Cigarette Packaging

Cigarette packaging AL/Paper has high softness, decorativeness, and protectiveness and has basically replaced asphalt moisture-proof paper to become the dominant packaging material for cigarette packaging.

The inner lining of cigarette foil can better prevent moisture, mildew, dryness, and flavor. Cigarette packaging composite materials use wet lamination technology to laminate aluminum foil with porous, highly hygroscopic lining paper using water-soluble or water-dispersible adhesives. Its process is simpler, with fewer steps, and thinner aluminum foil and lining paper can be used; the lamination speed is fast, the lamination fastness is high, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced. At present, wet lamination has become the best production method for cigarette foil.

Aluminum Foil Laminated Polyester Cans

Aluminum-plastic laminated cans are made of aluminum foil, polyester, and Kraft paper and can be made into square, cylindrical, rectangular, conical, and other forms of packaging cans.

Among them, cylindrical aluminum foil composite cans (LFG cans) first appeared in the United States, and now many countries use this packaging form. The characteristics of LFG cans are light weight and low price, about 20% lighter than aluminum cans, about 20% lower cost than tinplate cans, and of course cheaper than aluminum cans; they have good moisture resistance, sealing, light blocking, and barrier properties for liquid and solid contents, especially avoiding contamination at the weld of ordinary tinplate cans; stiffness and mechanical strength are moderate; compressive strength, axial crushing force, and end cover detachment force are all high, especially suitable for frozen food packaging. Aluminum-plastic laminated cans are also non-toxic, odorless, non-polluting, reusable, and recyclable.

At present, LFG cans made of this material have been widely used in the packaging of motor oil and some crisp foods, such as potato chips, and will gradually occupy new fields such as pressure vessels and cooking cans. If the can body strength, end cover structure, and other aspects are further improved and the quality of LFG cans is continuously improved, it can also occupy a place in the liquid packaging container.

Aluminum Poly Laminated Foil

Although aluminum foil is soft and foldable, it has low mechanical strength and poor sealing properties. By compounding aluminum foil with plastic film, you can get aluminum-plastic laminating flexible packaging materials with excellent barrier properties, mechanical properties, and heat sealing properties. They are widely used in food packaging, retort bags, chemical and industrial product packaging, and military product packaging.

For example, aluminum foil bags are composite materials of AL+PET. This kind of aluminum foil bag has good mechanical properties and sealing processing properties; good moisture-proof, gas-proof, and fragrance-preserving properties; good oil resistance and corrosion resistance; and is non-toxic, odorless, tasteless, hygienic, safe and reliable, and easy to print. It is suitable for automated and mechanized operations and is lighter and more economical than metal cans.

Aluminum foil composite retort bags are also a kind of aluminum-plastic composite flexible packaging material. It is made of multi-layer lamination of aluminum foil and plastic film. It is a packaging material with air tightness, high barrier properties, high softness, and certain heat resistance. Aluminum foil composite retort bags have the following advantages: significantly extend the shelf life of food, can withstand high temperature sterilization treatment of 120-150 °C, the shelf life can reach 1.5-2 years, can effectively maintain the nutritional level of food, and the color and taste are not damaged. At present, aluminum-plastic composite retort bags have been widely used in sauce-like, paste-like, solid retort food packaging and space food packaging.

Aluminum-plastic Laminating Hose Packaging Material

Aluminum-plastic laminating materials have good insulation properties, are not easy to break, have a beautiful appearance, bright colors, are clean and hygienic, are easy to use, have a soft feel, and are wrinkle-resistant. Aluminum foil composite hoses are made of aluminum foil, plastic, or resin as the base material and are made into aluminum foil composite tapes through a certain composite method.

Aluminum-plastic hoses can be used as packaging materials for toothpaste, ointments, cosmetics, washing products, chemical products, pigments, etc., especially toothpaste packaging.

Compared with aluminum hoses, aluminum foil composite hoses have many advantages:

  • It is 20% to 30% lighter than all-aluminum hoses of the same specification.
  • The pipe-making process is simple, suitable for high-speed and continuous production, with low energy consumption, low cost, and high production efficiency.
  • The wall thickness of the composite hose is 2 to 3 times thicker than that of the all-aluminum tube, and the bursting strength is also significantly higher than that of the all-aluminum tube, which enhances the safety of transportation and storage.
  • Because plastic is used as the inner wall material, corrosion resistance and sanitary safety are enhanced.

Aluminum Foil Laminated Polyester Blister Film

Aluminum-plastic composite blister packaging is also called blister packaging, referred to as “PTP.”

Aluminum foil blister packaging is made of plastic and aluminum foil laminated. Pharmaceutical blister packaging has good protection performance, fast production speed, and low cost; it is convenient and economical.

The aluminum foil used in pharmaceutical blister packaging is a sealing material sealed on plastic, usually called “PTP” medicinal aluminum foil, which has the advantages of being non-toxic, non-corrosive, impermeable, hygienic, heat-resistant, and moisture-proof. It is easy to sterilize at high temperatures and can block light, which can protect pharmaceutical tablets from light deterioration.

In addition to being used for the packaging of tablets and capsules, aluminum-plastic blister packaging materials will also be used for the outer packaging of injections and other drugs.
