The Application of Aluminum Foil in Transformers

Aluminum foil has various uses and applications in transformers:

Conductor material: Aluminum foil can be used as a conductor material for transformers, usually used to manufacture low-voltage transformers. Compared to copper, aluminum is cheaper, so in some low-voltage transformers, aluminum foil can be used as the main conductor material to control costs.

Heat dissipation: Aluminum foil has good thermal conductivity, which can help transformers dissipate heat and maintain normal operating temperature. Inside the transformer, by installing aluminum foil on heat sinks or fins, heat can be effectively transferred to the external environment.

Insulation: Aluminum foil can also be used as a part of insulation material to wrap the insulation layer or fill insulation gaps, improve the insulation performance of transformers, and prevent electrical faults and arcs from occurring.

Connection: Inside the transformer, aluminum foil can be used as a material to connect different components, such as connecting coils and insulation layers.

Lightweight: Compared to traditional copper conductors, aluminum foil is lighter and can reduce the overall weight of transformers, which may be important for some specific application scenarios.

Although aluminum foil has many advantages in transformers, there are also some challenges, such as the lower conductivity of aluminum compared to copper, which can easily generate contact resistance and need to be considered in the design and manufacturing process. In addition, aluminum foil may be more susceptible to corrosion or oxidation in certain situations, and corresponding protective measures need to be taken.
